Nominations Losing Credibility

// July 4th, 2009 // Random Movie Musings

So, I realize I may be a little behind on this but I just heard it, so calm down. But the president of the Academy announced that starting next year, there will be 10 best picture nominees instead of 5. How incredibly retarded is this? Can we say, an obvious ploy to get higher ratings?! This is a way for them to give out a “nomination” to widely popular movies like ‘The Dark Knight,’ or this year ‘Star Trek.’ This way they please the fans without having to compromise the integrity of their award, because, let’s face it, Star Trek would never actually win best picture. This is also a way for them to include animated movies without upsetting some people, in particular me. How much less does it mean to be nominated if they nominate 10?! There are barely 10 good movies in a year. Now every single good and even decent movie will get nominated. It almost doesn’t mean anything anymore. I can’t possibly express how stupid this is. So now, I fully expect to see Star Trek, Up, and some other giant popcorn movie to get nominated for Best Picture. Don’t get me wrong, I think Star Trek is a great movie, but Best Picture nominee worthy?! You have got to be kidding me! Whatever. Pretty soon every dvd cover art is going to say ‘Academy Award Nominee’ on it, and pretty soon they are going to start giving out blue ribbons and honorable mention awards. “And the 2009 Good Hustle Academy Award goes to……..Terminator Salvation. Yeah!”

    Haha. I like the “Good Hustle Academy Award.” That’s funny. But I agree. Giving out 10 nominations is dumb. Why don’t they just stop giving out nominations and just say every movie is nominated. That would please everybody. Oh, how about a “You’d Get Nominated For Best Actor/Actress If You Weren’t So Freaking Awful Award”…..and the award goes to…..Megan Fox!!
