Grading Christian Bale

// May 28th, 2009 // Gradebook

This one pains me a little bit because he used to be one of my favorites. But in light of his douche bagginess last summer, it makes him pretty impossible to like. His grade is definitely going to be lower than his acting ability. Let’s see how he does.

    I assume you’re referring to the incident with his mother and sister (allegations denied, no charges pressed, no evidence) and the incident with the director of photography in Terminator (I would have blown up at the moron too – Bale apologized and has been publicly defended by several colleagues). Am I the only person in the world who is able to look past this stuff and still like the guy? I think a zero in likeability is a little absurd. But that’s just me.

    Ya, he’s not very likeable. I probably would have given him somewhere between 5-10 points. Not that it would have helped his overall grade much.

    Unfortunately, I agree with Justin on this one. The only time Christian Bale has apologized for blowing up on the Terminater set was right before his movie came out. That makes me think that the only reason he’s apologizing is so he can promote his new movie. And, I think that his ego is beginning to affect his acting ability. His performances in The Dark Knight and Terminator Salvation make it seem like he is totally full of himself.

  4. Jesse says:

    And, a zero for likeability is NOT absurd, because this grading system is based on Justin’s opinion, and if Justin thinks Christian Bale has zero likeability, then that’s what he should put. Justin is not going to pander to popular opinion.

  5. Jesse says:

    There will be no pandering. And zero for likeability is simply not absurd. Jesse is exactly right here. He waits until the week of the release of his movie to apologize and the director waits until the week of the movie release to take blame for the whole thing. Seems a little coincidental, does it not? If I were the director and that same thing happened and it really was my fault, I would have come out and said that the very day that that tape was released. I would not have let him take all that heat for that. Maybe that’s just me.

  6. Justin says:

    Dangit, that last comment was me, not Jesse.

    That’s why I wrote, “But that’s just me.” :)
